"I'd like that," she pulled herself back onto the bed, giving Emmett a bigger grin than he had hid from her. "I've always wanted a family. And a brother. Did you ever want a sibling?"

He pulled himself together to leave him with just a smile, his eyes glancing to the other side of the room, away from her as she stared and smiled at him. Emmett nodded and then shrugged. "Yeah heh, I guess. I haven't thought about it much. But then that other girl came..." he wasn't exactly into the idea after that experiance. "B-b-but y-you're alot...n-nicer than she was..."

She frowned and sat up, moving closer to Emmett and crossing her legs. She examined him under a gentle gaze, as if trying to figure out the small boy. "Was she mean to you? How could someone be mean to you? You're too nice."

Emmett flushed a deep red. He hadn't meant to get them talking about it. He hoped his meekness over it all hadn't brought her attention to it. He just wanted to compliment her, telling her she was really a nice girl. He didn't want to change the whole subject onto him like that and away from her. "Uh- heh...ehheh...n-not- I...I guess. I don't know, not really. I'm not..." he said trying not to slur or mumble as best as he could and shook his head.

"You are nice," she contradicted him. "You're a lot nicer than any of the other boys I've met. Most of the boys I know are mean. They put worms in my hair once." She wanted to talk about him more. She wanted to know more about him. He seemed like such a shy guy, there had to be more under the surface.

He just shook his head simply as she spoke against him, but didn't say anything over her or back to her about it. He just couldn't take the nice comments, he didn't believe in them. Emmett leaned away slightly at her story, turning his head to look at her for the first time in a while. "They did that? I'm so sorry." as if he'd egged them on or was somehow involved.

"It was stupid," she didn't want to talk about herself. "Tell me more about that girl. Was she really that mean to you? You're such a nice boy, though. How could someone find something in you to pick on?"

"Um." he sat up now, with posture that his parents would smack him over the head for. His hands took turns pulling down the opposite sleeves. His fingers the tips of each on both hands as he stared down at them like he was reading a book. "I-I don't know. She just didn't like me I guess."

Mary Jane sat next to him so that their knees were touching. She reached over and took one of his hands in hers. She gave it a squeeze and offered him a smile. "I like you. I think you're sweet. And I've only known you not that long."

His eyes watched as his hand travelled lifelessly from his own lap to her leg, floating in air with hers. His hand impulsively curled up just slightly but he tried not to, though it was hard. He just wasn't use to this gesture. It was completely odd and unknown to him. Though it was new and a bit awkward, he welcomed in after a moment and he couldn't stop the left corner of his lips twitching into a small smile. He didn't look up at her but just stayed gazing at their hands. "Th...th-thank you..." he told her softly. "I- heh, you make me sound so...amazing. I'm not."

"You're more amazing than any of the other boys I've ever known," she shrugged. Mary Jane knew what she had to do. No matter if she was here for two weeks or twelve years, she would have to teach this little boy to have more confidence. "I think you're amazing, and I don't even know you that well. Just imagine what will happen later on."

Emmett looked back down, not taking it from hers but letting his hand slip out of her grasp and onto his leg. He started to laugh nerviously, but tried his best to tune it down. He felt completely foolish and worse so over his laughter and smiles. "I-it's okay, you...you really don't have to say that. Really."

She tilted her head at him and pulled her knees to her chest, her shoes being pushed off by the edge of the bed. Her now socked feet rested at the edge. "Do you think I'm lying to you or something?"

"I- No! No....um... just..." He didn't want to take the credit, but at the same time he didn't want call her a liar. Of course not! "I...I don't know. That's really nice of you though. Just like..really really nice. Too nice." he nodded and closed his eyes. "Thank you but- I- I just can't...Noone talks about me like that. Noone talks to me like that. I just- I don't think I'm all that great as you say. That's all."

"Maybe that's why you don't believe it," Mary Jane answered. "Because no one's told you. You have to believe in yourself, Emmie. You're pretty cool. I mean, you like to act, right? It must take a lot to go out in front of people. You must be admired by a lot of people."
