It wasn't normal. There had been some guys around the house for a few days, men Emmett didn't know at all. He couldn't go into his room, his parents said he wasn't allowed to. When ever he crossed by he could smell paint and the room looked close to empty. Some other big men had come and moved out his bed. He had no idea way. He was told that someone was coming to stay with him. That he was going to get a new bed. Emmett would sometimes try and peak into the room but it was hard with the people coming in and out. Today he didn't even try to look. No one was here, not even his parents. Still he behaved and stayed at the other end of the house. He wasn't even that curious over it anymore. He couldn't only think about his visitor. No one said they were sharing a room but he figured that out on his own. He saw there were two bed. One over the other, the one under the top bed was turned the other way. It was like the beds all his friends with siblings had. Well, classmates not exactly friends. Emmett sat in the very center of the couch, his legs crossed tightly under him. He wore a thin light purple short sleeve shirt, with Daffy Duck on the back. The material practicly drapped from his thin frame. He was barefoot and had on khaki shorts that went right above his boney knees. He was leaning over with his arms crossed over his legs to hold him up a bit. He could hardly focus on whatever he had set on the television. He'd glance from the screen and over to the left large window facing the front yard and drive way infront of their street. He'd go back to the screen and then again to the right window now. His hair hung in his face, only moved away when it irratated his eyes. Otherwise he didn't care none. He could still see, which was all he needed. He wanted to see his visitor come.

Mary Jane rode in the back of another black car. For the fourth time. She had gotten accustomed to the nice lady that escorted her to each new family. Mary Jane stayed quiet as the lady told her about the new family she was going to. There was a mommy and a daddy, just like she used to have. And this time, they had their own little boy. The same age as Mary Jane, nine. She clutched her stuffed cow, Caylee, to her chest as she listened. The car pulled into a driveway of a pretty big house, bigger than the one that she used to live in. When she was six. The lady got out of the car and opened the door for Mary Jane. She stepped out uncertainly, never letting go of Caylee. The lady took her suitcase. She didn't have many clothes. They walked to the front door, and while the lady rang the doorbell, Mary Jane began to sniffle quietly. She didn't like meeting new people. Why couldn't she have stayed at the last house? They had a kitty.

Wait...there was only one car. And only two people got out. Where were his parents. He wasn't suppose to answer the door without his parents. Their guest wasn't suppose to get here without his parents. They were suppose to be back. What was he suppose to do now? He couldn't just make them wait out there. Emmett tried not to run to the window to get a better look. He eyes burned and bit on his lip looking around the room. They'd be here right? Why weren't they here yet? He knew nothing probably happened to them but he didn't know what to do now. The woman from the black car was coming across the stepping stones infront of the house and soon would be going up the four stairs that went to their large pale pink door. Emmett slowly pulled his legs out letting his feet curl against the blue shag on the floor before standing. He stood and rubbed his arm then going up into his sleeve to scratch his shoulder. He didn't want to open the door but he didn't want to make them stand there and wait. The bell rang and he jumped almost stumbling over his own feet. He came to the door and put his hands against it. He knew he couldn't reach the small hole above him but he always seemed to try. He kneeled down on the floor and looked under the door. He also knew people were there, and he knew who they were- kind of. Emmett stood and with one last look to the one car driveway he turned both locks and opened to the door, only wide enough for him to stand in the doorway, his hands on the door and doorframe.

Mary Jane peered around the lady who was standing in front of her. It was the son, she assumed. She smiled softly as she wiped her eyes. He looked nice enough. She fidgeted in place as the lady asked the boy where his parents were. Mary Jane tugged on her sleeve as another car pulled up to the house.

He stared at the girl for a moment. She looked almost exactly like the last visitor they'd had. Though she must be special or something compaired to that girl. They didn't do all this work for her. Emmett slept in a different room and she took his. She wasn't nice at all, she was pretty much a nightmare for Emmett the whole time she was here. She had dark hair like Emmetts, but not so dark. And not as light as this new girl who's hair was a contrast to Emmetts. He turned his eyes to the ground, beaming at the weak clovers growing through their welcome mat. "Th...th-th-there n-not...umm..." He was cut off watching as the the familure Honda rode up in a bit of a hurry. He sighed deeply in relief. He just hoped they weren't upset that he'd opened the door. He knew he it was, so what would be wrong with it. His parents threw themselves out of the car and hurred up to meet the lady in the blue suit.

Mary Jane stepped to the side as the man and woman talked to the lady. She squeezed Caylee tighter, her whimpers barely audible. She hated going to new families, they made her shy. What if they didn't want her? She buried her face into her stuffed toy, her blonde hair falling around her. The lady told the parents that they had some forms to fill out, but Mary Jane barely understood her.

Emmett just observed while his parents smiled down at the girl with the cow. He made comments about how cute she was, how small, how pretty, how sweet. Things Emmett was a customed to hearing them only tell other children. He turned away from the door, leaving it open, and went back to the couch just yards away. He didn't want to have to talk to the lady the girl was with. And he couldn't help but worry and wonder if the girl was like the last one that was here. She was just a bit older than they were but she treated him almost like the kids ant school. Emmett didn't like the kids at school. Lucy Briggs put a hand on Mary Jane's shoulder and told her she should go look inside. His mother wasn't doing a very good job paying attention to the woman and her forms and what not. Emuel just did his best to listen. They'd already done this one before but it seemed like it had been too long.

Mary Jane did as she was told, leaving the adults to do their business. She shuffled inside, her cow safely in her arms. She looked at the boy on the couch and cautiously approached. She coughed quietly, and wetly and looked up at him with her large blue eyes. "C-can... Can I sit?"

Emmett looked at her softly and after a moment of her words sinking in he moved himself over to the left to give her room on his right. Though there was already plenty of room as it was, he hoped she'd take it as a kind gesture. "Be polite." his mother bickered at him coming over to the two. "Say I high to Mary Jane." the ordered of him. "This is my baby boy Emmett Lloyd." she introduced the boy for him. "We're not even sure if he knows how to talk." she teased but with no smile as she walked on past them, giving Emmett a pet on the head like he was the family pet as she went into the kitchen.

"Mm'Mary Jane," she mumbled, sitting herself onto the couch. She sat with Caylee in her lap and her legs dangling off the edge. Emmett Lloyd, huh? That sounded nice. She wondered why he didn't talk to her. Did he not like her? There was once a boy who didn't like her. He teased her all the time.

"I talk..." he mumbled when his mother had left the room. He wouldn't have dare said anything against her otherwise. He let his head hang down, most of his hair flipped to the front he could barely see through it if he lifted his eyes any higher. There was a quiet and seemingly awkward silence in the room. His fater was still out infront with the woman who had brought this girl and her cow. "...H-hi..." he said shakey and nervious. He hoped she wasn't like the last girl who he could just start crying now and save them the time and trouble.

"Hi," she replied quietly. "This is Caylee. She's my cow," she was beginning to open up rather quickly to this boy. She held out her cow.

Emmett smirked and sat up a bit straighter, tiliting his head to face her. "...Heh..." looking at the cow, then her, then back to Caylee. She wasn't exactly smiling, but he was still ammused of how highly she probably thought of this cow. Emmett reached out slowly and ever so gently picked up the Caylee's front left leg and made it go up and down at a slow pace, like shaking hands with a day old child with much care.

She withdrew her cow after they had shunk hands. "Caylee likes you," she informed him, matter-of-factly. "How old are you?"

He smiled more as she assured him he was in favor of the stuffed animal. It was sweet. "Nine." he said simply pulling his legs for his knees to face the ceiling more. They already told Emmett that this new girl was going to be his age. He thought it was a good sign. That maybe they'd get a long better since she wasn't older. And she definitely didn't seem mean.
