Caylee opened the door, sliding into the seat and letting Emmett come in after her. She couldn't wait to just grab his hand again, her head going right back to its spot. Mr. Brigg's glance at her through the rear view mirror. "Mary Jane. Emmett," was his curt greeting. "Hello," she replied softly, not sure how to act around him. Or how Emmett wanted her to act.

Closing the door behind him, he stared down quietly at their hands. He stayed silent while they were spoken too, and didn't even look up. He heard his father clear his voice and he flenched, finally looking up. "Y- Hi." He didn't want to be rude, but it was just too tense right not. He realized he wasn't making it any better. "...Hi." he repeated for no reason, as his mother strapped herself into the passenger seat, and smiled back at them.

Caylee gave his hand another squeeze and a sympathetic smile. Her pants buzzed again and she cursed softly under her breath. She wiggled around slightly, trying to get the trapped phone out of her pocket. It was Ari again, as always. She replied to his message and put the phone in her lap.

He didn't look up to Caylee to see her sympathy shine on him, but he could feel it, which was why he didn't look up. After he'd opened his mouth just for that moment, he went right back to look at their hands, just to see them quickly part as she was again paged for. Emmett looked up to see mother dearest looking over her shoulder at Mary Jane. Atleast he thought she was, since he couldn't see much sitting directly behind her. Then she seemed to shake her head at her or something like that. For some reason there was this floating around no phones rule around their foursome- maybe it was their attempt at seeming like a normal intrested family. Emmett couldn't help but think it hypocritical of her since if her phone rang now she'd talk the whole way home. Slipping his hand down into his bag sitting on the side of the seat between it and the door, he reached in and tucked his phone into his hand. He then scratched the back of his neck with it, followed by reaching his hand over his shoulder, he fiddled with it unnotably- good grief and snapped it closed, returning his hand to his side and waited for Caylee's phone to alert her quietly once more.

Her phone did a little spazzy dance on the lap of her jeans and she quickly flipped the phone open. What up, Chuck? The car began to pull out of the rounded driveway, Mr. Briggs slowly turning the steering wheel. She noticed that neither Mr. or Mrs. Briggs looked at each other or spoke to each other. Actually, no one spoke. Awkwaaaard.

oh nothing much Patty, just loving the idea of how much FUN this is going to be. ... He was sure she'd fine the sarcasm in there. It was obvious to both that this was indeed awkward. Maybe not as much for them sense they were able to communicate secretively now. That should keep them some entertainment. As for this deal with their parents, he just wished someone would talk.

And right there, out loud, in the middle of the completely tense silence of their disfunction on wheels trip home, Emmett snerked twice and dropped his chin to his collar. Both his parents glared at him immediately, and of course he could feel those 'so odd' thoughts just burning into him from their eyes. Everything he did made them think he was weird. Okay so yeah, maybe he was. They have a weird kid. Why they couldn't just accept that was beyond everyone else.

Caylee laughed immediately after he did, just at the awkwardness being broken. What an absolute dork. And she totally loved him for it. "Gee, Emmie," she said quietly, with a small smile. "Could you be any weirder? Whatcha laughin' at?"

He left his phone at his side and put his right hand up to cover his face, his head still hanging. His fingers spread out across his hair line taking up his whole face thankfully, and convering his grin along with the colour of his cheeks. With his other arm he nudged Caylee's gently and glanced at her through his fingers just for a moment. Great support there. Make him look like the complete loser. ...that he totally was being. Yet calling him out like that- putting it all on him. As if it wasn't her fault.

Caylee giggled again, leaning forward and planting a wet kiss on the back of Emmett's hand. When her phone vibrated again. This time she didn't even bother to text Ari back. "God forbid he should leave me alone for two seconds," she muttered under her breath, putting the phone back.
"Who's 'he,' dear?" Mrs. Briggs looked at her through the rear view mirror.
"Boyfriend," she mentioned carelessly, with a small shrug.

Emmett dropped his hand from his face and snerked again at her answer. He turned his head to stare out the window. Which quickly made him sick. So he sat facing forward again and sighed. Right a boyfriend. That Emmett would know completely nothing about. Funny that. Ha. That's a knee slapper. Yuk yuk. Right. With another exhale he leaned back in his seat and kicked off his shoes.

Mrs. Briggs asked more about him.
"His name is Ari," she began. "And he's an actor. We met on campus. He's kinda a jerk, but I'm trying to tame him. It's cute. He's cute."
... Had she not told Emmett? Yes she had. She must've... eventually...

"Who?" after a moment he was catching on, and his head slowly turned to face her, now leaning forward again in his usual bad posture. His bangs barely parted enough to see most of her face. She had to be kidding. If she wasn't this would honestly be the first thing she hadn't involved Emmett in. A part of her world she hadn't shared with him. This. All this must have been what she was doing while he was staying up, having lunch alone, calling her dorm hopelessly, and then getting picked on and kicked around yesterday- something he hadn't exactly shared with her. He figured she was off doing other things, he wasn't going to worry her about it now, nineteen hours later. Still now that he knew exactly what must have been going on all this time, it was a little earth shaking. Or a speed bump. Probably both.

Fuckshitdamncrap. She didn't tell him, did she? FUCKSHITDAMNCRAP! She KNEW she had to do something. She stuttered slightly as she turned her head slowly towards him. "...Ari? Feldmen? I must've had told you about him. We've been hanging out after class?"
