And again the tears came easier, just by her fussing over him. His body jerked again and his left hand clinged to the bottom of her shirt. He didn't want more meds because he would be a zombie, but Emmett couldn't stand pain. It just made it even more easier. "I want to go home..."

"You will, I promise. If you don't relax, they'll have to keep you here," getting an idea, she slowly slid out from Emmett, laying his head gently on the bed. "Hey, hey... why don't you sketch a little? That'll make you feel right at home." she got the sketch book and a pencil from her bag then sat back on the bed, nudging Emmett to sit up. "C'mon, Em."

Emmett shook his head and resisted her. He didn't want to, and he didn't have the muse. "May...please..." hoping she'd understand. He curled back into the bed and hid his face into the pillow again. He wasn't up for this. He just wanted to leave. He hated hospitals and it took everything in him not to rip out his IV and throw it.

"Emmie, come on... just try? For me? I have my ipod too. If you want to listen," she was just trying to get him to relax. She hated seeing him all wound up. It wasn't going to do much for him at all, either. "I know you want out of here, okay? But you can't leave. So make the best of it. I know you hate it here, Em. I'm not happy that you have to stay either. You don't think that I'd rather have you being in perfect health out there?" she sighed and put the book down in her lap. "... why weren't you eating?"

"I just wasn't feeling good." he mumbled and whined, since he wasn't feeling so swell now either. "It wasn't on purpose- I just haven't...had anything today." he explained, tucking his needle free hand under him and applied pressure like before.

"It wasn't just today, was it?" she said quietly. "It's been since that Chinese food incident. You haven't been eating much, I've seen it. Just not eating today wouldn't have caused all of this. ... they said that your bones might be weakening."

His voice was groggy with discomfort. Both from the pain and the topic. "It's been before that." he admitted. "But it didn't do anything to my bones." he protested. "Eating didn't make me feel good, I felt better when I didn't, okay?" He continued to mumble and curse into the pillow.

"No, not really, actually," she slipped her shoes off and brought her legs up on the bed. "Your bones get weak by malnutrition. And if you don't eat, you don't get any calcium or vitamin D. What's ... God, Emmett, I don't know what else to say. Do you even know how scared I've been? How worried and... I had to slap you, for Christ's sake! I've never hit you before, and it didn't even work."

"...We were ten." he corrected, clearly remembering a little event she didn't. "May, I didn't do it on purpose, okay?" he began to sob harder and he'd almost tore that pillow apart. "Just please...please stop scolding me..." he begged that followed with a thousand apologizies.

"Emmie..." she turned her head to him and sighed. She shifted closer to him and lifted him up gently. She held him in her lap, holding him close to her chest. "I'm not scolding you... I'm so sorry," she murmured into his hair. "I was just... so afraid. I know you are too. I should just... shut up."

He quickly turned his head to her stomach and wrapped his arms around her waist tightly. He couldn't speak, he felt like he was drowning. Emmett quickly sat back up as he'd pulled too hard on his leash and put his left hand on his wrist, hissing and rocking in his seat. "Ah, ah, shhhiiiiiit." he squeezed his eyes and tears sprinkled the air. It was hard enough to have such a thing digging under his skin but now he'd screwed up and pulled on it, only bringing attention back to it.

"Stop pulling on it," she watched it get tauter as he rocked. She held him in place, and held his wrist in her arm. "Relax," she whispered in his ear. "Or you're only going to hurt more."

Noises escaped him in both pain and fear. He still fuckin hated needles. Needles, hospitals, pain. This was not Emmett's trip to the park. "Shit, May, shit..." he turned and cried into her shoulder. His right hand still gripping at his arm, on the back side of where the needle was tapped. "I hate thiiis..."

"I know you do, I know..." she cooed, holding him tighter to her. "It's gonna hurt. You just have to distract yourself from it. Think of something else. Think of yourself doing something else."

"Leaving." he began his list. "I want to be back home, doing my school work." he told her and slowly brought his left arm around her next, holding her too him. His movement was slow and timid, he just wanted to hold her back.
